December 16, 2009-Technology sprouted at the 2010 Center for the Research and Development of Light-Activated Materials at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion gained national attention this week when CNN named a germ-killing molecule, N-halamine CI-TMPM, one of the Top 10 Health Innovations of 2009. The substance, which is similar to bleach, can be added to materials such as wall paint and cloth to give it antimicrobial properties. A South Dakota start-up company, Antimicrobial Technologies Group (ATG) has licensed the technology.
