PIERRE, S.D. - Gov. Mike Rounds has awarded the community of Lake Norden a $157,500 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to assist with the cost of a new community center.
“This facility will be a wonderful asset to Lake Norden,” the Governor said. “Facilities such as this community center help improve the quality of life in South Dakota, which is a major component of my 2010 Initiative.”
Lake Norden currently has no facility for community events.
The proposed 8,750-square-foot facility is designed to accommodate 350 people. It will include a meeting room, training room, a kitchen, bathrooms and storage areas.
CDBG is a reimbursement program, and the community will receive the funds as work is completed.
The CDBG program provides communities with financial resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. Past grants have been used for improvements and construction of community buildings, fire halls, water systems, and sewer systems.
The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development funds the CDBG program, and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development administers it.
