Lake Andes Awarded Community Development Block Grant
5/3/2010
PIERRE, S.D. - Lake Andes has been awarded $257,500 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) money to upgrade its wastewater collection system.
“These funds will greatly improve the infrastructure in Lake Andes,” said Gov. Mike Rounds. “Having up-to-date water and sewer systems will enhance the quality of life for residents of that community.”
About 80 percent of the sewer lines and 75 percent of manholes in Lake Andes are part of the original, 1920s installation. The lines have a variety of problems, such as root intrusions, sediment accumulation, sagging and general deterioration.
CDBG is a reimbursement program, and the community will receive the funds as work is completed.
The CDBG program provides communities with financial resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. Past grants have been used for improvements and construction of community buildings, fire halls, water systems, and sewer systems.
The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development funds the CDBG program, and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development administers it.
