GeoFurnace Manufacturing Inc. cuts ribbon in De Smet
9/12/2008
PIERRE, S.D. — The doors officially opened at a De Smet business after a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier today. GeoFurnace Manufacturing Inc. will design, manufacture and assemble geothermal heat pumps at its leased 12,000-square-foot facility.
“We couldn’t be happier to see this company start up in De Smet,” said Richard Benda, secretary, South Dakota Department of Tourism and State Development. “GeoFurnace truly provides an environmentally friendly way to heat and cool homes and businesses.”
GeoFurnace uses components offered by suppliers in the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) industry and designs and manufactures the products per specs of the wholesale distributor. Within three years, the company plans to add the equivalent of 24 full-time positions, and offers training opportunities for anyone interested.
“We are glad to offer International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) accreditation here in De Smet,” said owner Michael Hunt. “The course is a three-day course that will help ensure quality in the geothermal industry. Upon completion, attendees will be an accredited IGSHPA installer.”
Hunt is one of 12 accredited IGSHPA trainers in North America.
GeoFurnace also received a REDI Fund loan from the Governor’s Office of Economic Development that was used to purchase equipment for the facility.
“The nature of geothermal heating and South Dakota’s renewable energy goals, combined with the classes and training available make GeoFurnace a prime candidate for state financing programs,” said Benda. “GeoFurnace is a great addition to South Dakota’s corporate family.”
