Business and Industry Training

  1. Business and Industry Training Program

    • Applicant Based Training
These open enrollment courses are developed based on public demand and may be non-credit or credit-granting courses. The application-based courses are designed to serve industry and businesses with employee training needs, and for those individuals who may require specific skills training. We've included a list of current offerings.

    • Customized Training
Tailored to meet specific company training needs and using the latest technology available, customized programs are developed in partnerships with the company or organization requesting the training.

    • Apprenticeship Training
Apprenticeship courses combine formal classroom and clinical or lab training with on-the-job training and experience. These courses are designed to meet industry requirements for skill training.

    • Continuing Education and License Renewal Training
The BIT centers offer continuing education and certification programs for career fields that require licensure or re-certification. The center coordinators work closely with state and local organizations to identify industry training needs. These courses are designed to meet state and federal requirements for continuing education.

    • Directed Independent Study
Directed Independent Study is one of the newest types of training being developed by the BIT Centers. These courses are self-paced and provide basic skills training.

  2. Technical Institutes

    • On-Campus Training
South Dakota is home to four technical institutes: Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls, Western Dakota Technical Institute in Rapid City, Mitchell Technical Institute in Mitchell, and Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown.
    • On-Site Training
The on-site programs offer training for companies at another designated site, depending on customer preference and availability of resources. Mobile labs are also available for on-site training. This flexibility allows the training centers to serve any site in any town in South Dakota.

For additional information, contact the coordinators of the training programs.
