In 2011, South Dakota is listed as the seventh best state in the nation for business. South Dakota was in eighth place last year. The Pollina Corporate Top 10 Pro-Business States study evaluates and ranks states based on more than 30 factors, including taxes, human resources, right-to-work legislation, energy costs, infrastructure spending, workers’ compensation laws, economic incentive programs and state economic development efforts. “South Dakota has proven itself a consistent pro-business state ranking among the Top 10 states for all eight years of this study,” said Brent Pollina, Vice President of Pollina Corporate Real Estate, Inc. and author of this year’s study. South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard is pleased that South Dakota is consistently ranked as a top state for business. “Creating jobs is my top priority,” the Governor said. “We very much appreciate the importance of business development and the jobs that are created.” The first Pollina Corporate Top 10 Pro-Business States study was released in 2004.
