South Dakota Story Reaches 30,000 Feet

Monday, October 31, 2011
PIERRE, S.D. – Details about the benefits of doing business in South Dakota and highlights on the state’s top attractions can now be found 30,000 feet in the air.

During the month of November, Sky magazine, the in-flight magazine of Delta Air Lines, features a 14-page spread on South Dakota. The special section discusses the unique visitor attractions in South Dakota, as well as some of South Dakota’s largest business industries.

Both J. Pat Costello, Commissioner of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and James Hagen, Secretary of the Department of Tourism, are excited that Delta is helping share the South Dakota story with a large national and international audience.

“Delta’s section on South Dakota will land in the hands of millions of people. This effort will help us gain mindshare with business leaders we might not have otherwise been able to reach,” said Costello.

Hagen added, “This kind of third-party publicity is something that simply can’t be bought. We’re thrilled to be able to showcase South Dakota’s visitor attractions and business opportunities to a worldwide audience.”

The November spread takes a close look at the growing biosciences and healthcare industries in South Dakota, many of South Dakota’s educational institutions and the many tourism activities throughout the state.

Delta Air Lines carries more customers annually than any other airline, and Delta’s award-winning Sky magazine is the world’s most-read onboard magazine reaching an estimated 5 million readers monthly with an average household income of $125,000.
