GOED's Newest Business Development Rep Experienced in Financial Services Industry

Ira Frericks Worked in Banking for 30+ Years
The GOED is pleased to welcome its newest business development representative to the team. Ira Frericks joined the GOED this month, and brings plenty of banking and financial services industry knowledge with him.

We sat down with Ira for a short Q&A session and learned about his background, experiences, and outlook on the future.

Q:  We know you have an extensive background in financial services. Can you provide some details?
A:  I have been in banking for more than 30 years, and served in a variety of roles. I’m a CPA, and have been a controller, internal auditor, chief accounting officer, chief financial officer (CFO), and, most recently, served as chief operating officer (COO) at MetaBank here in Sioux Falls. It was a great experience and I loved serving in different roles in my time there.

Q:  What made you want to get involved in economic development?
A:  I was born and raised in South Dakota, and am excited to be able to do my part to help my state grow. Economic development provides me with the opportunity to use my experience in finance in a different way than I have been able to in the past.

Q:  What do you think South Dakota has to offer companies in the financial services industry?
A:  South Dakota has a lot to offer – there is tons of opportunity here. I’ve lived in Sioux Falls since 1988 and truly think it is a place for businesses and entrepreneurs to succeed. We have a friendly regulatory and tax environment that supports the entrepreneurial spirit and an experienced financial services work force that is ready to help a business grow.

Q:  What are you working on?
A:  I’m still getting my feet on the ground, but I’m working to reach out to my contacts in the industry, as well as existing prospects the office has. I’m hopeful we can get them to consider South Dakota and locate here one day!
