Terex to Invest in New Manufacturing Facility for Terex Utilities
Watertown, S.D.  (April 17, 2018) – Terex Utilities, a leading manufacturer of equipment for the global electric utility industry based in Watertown, S.D., has announced plans to consolidate its Watertown manufacturing operations into a single state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.
Located on a 55-acre site near 15th Avenue SE in Watertown, S.D., the new facility will house main assembly, fiberglass, paint, and installation under one roof. Here, Terex Utilities will build its aerial devices, digger derricks, and auger drills.

“Terex Utilities is a core business in Terex Corporation’s portfolio,” said John Garrison, President and CEO. “This investment will allow the company to respond to customer needs with a new facility that simplifies operations, drives better performance, and provides a work environment that will not only attract top talent, but will be a place where people can build long-term careers in manufacturing.”

“Terex is a globally recognized and trusted company, and it fits well into South Dakota’s business culture, so I’m pleased to hear its decision to reinvest in South Dakota,” said Gov. Dennis Daugaard. “Terex is the sort of company that, when given the opportunity to expand or relocate, can do it just about anywhere around the globe. This reinvestment benefits Terex employees, the Watertown community, the State and the entire region at large.”
“We want Terex Utilities to be the best place to work in the industry,” said Clint Weber, VP and General Manager of Terex Utilities. “This facility will help us attract the talent we need to continue growing, innovating, and leading our industry. Not only will it help us enhance our production efficiencies and improve our lead times, we’ll also be able to improve our communication and provide team members with better safety, quality, and management support and resources.”

Terex Utilities is a leading global supplier of insulated utility equipment from its founding in 1945 under the Telelect brand, and it has been a significant manufacturer in South Dakota for over forty years.

“The City of Watertown is thrilled that Terex Utilities has selected our community as the home for their new facility. I know that competition was fierce for this opportunity and the City will do everything possible to expedite its construction phase. We will also continue to work to improve the quality of life for Terex employees and the entire community of Watertown,” said Watertown Mayor, Sarah Caron.

"Terex's decision to expand in Watertown over any other place speaks volumes for the assets we have in our area. Terex has a strong manufacturing platform with excellent career opportunities and wages that we always strive for when working on business retention and expansion strategies with other companies. We are excited for Terex and Watertown,” said Chris Schilken, executive director, Watertown Development Company.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held April 17. The company expects operations to begin in the new facility by the end of 2019.
