Myriad Mobile Expands to Sioux Falls
Leading app developer attracted to area’s tech and talent; One Million Cups caffeinates connection
Sioux Falls, SD and Fargo, ND, October 25, 2016 – Myriad Mobile (Myriad), a full-service enterprise mobile and web application development company headquartered in Fargo with an office in Minneapolis, announced today it is expanding to Sioux Falls. The rapidly growing tech firm, recently named to the Inc. 5000 List of America’s fastest growing companies, was attracted to the tech and talent in the area, with connections made through the One Million Cups community.

“The talent and tech base in Sioux Falls really impressed us,” said Myriad Mobile co-founder and CEO Jake Joraanstad. “Ironically, we came to recruit and ended up coming here instead. We’ve struck up great partnerships and hired good people. It’s proven to be a really smart move. ”

In December of 2015, Joraanstad presented at One Million Cups (1MC) in Sioux Falls at the invitation of John T. Meyer, 1MC organizer and CEO and Co-Founder of Lemonly. Joraanstad agreed in hopes of finding new clients and team members to continue building his rapidly growing company.

Austin Hanson approached Joraanstad after his presentation. Hanson, a Sioux Falls native and South Dakota State University electrical engineering and computer science grad had recently moved back to Sioux Falls, after living in California and working on Amazon Music's Android products for several years.

“When I was living in in the Bay area, I came across a website that calculated how many more times I would see my parents in their lifetime,” said Hanson. “That number - 84 - really got the ball rolling to move back home. The timing was great because Sioux Falls is quickly becoming a tech hub and I was able to identify opportunities that weren’t here 10 years ago.”

It was a fateful meeting and now about 10 months later, Hanson is Myriad’s Director of Technology and Consulting, and will lead the Sioux Falls operations joined by software engineer, Marcus Nowick.

The company of nearly 40 mobile engineers, designers, architects, and business consultants has strategized, designed and deployed more than 350 technology projects for notable national brands including American Express, US Bank, Cargill, Bobcat and Monsanto.

“We’ll look to hire additional team members in 2017, as our business is continuing to grow at a pretty rapid pace,” said Joraanstad. “These positions could include software engineers, designers, developers, strategists and business development specialists.”

In addition to finding tech talent, Myriad has begun working with a number of Sioux Falls-based businesses and organizations to solve problems through inventive technologies.

They recently announced a partnership with Midco and the companies have launched two popular projects together. The “My Account” app allows Midco’s residential customers to easily control their Midco account from a smartphone or tablet. The “MidcoSN” app enables mobile football fans to track and follow high school scores throughout North Dakota and South Dakota.

The company has recently started projects with The Good Samaritan Society and Diamond Mowers.

Myriad is currently leasing the second floor of Lemonly in downtown Sioux Falls as the company explores options for a more permanent space.

“The entrepreneurial and tech community in Sioux Falls has really been welcoming–reflective of my first meeting with John,” said Joraanstad. “He was the first person we called when we were looking to expand to Sioux Falls. The first thing John said was, ‘How can I help?’ then we knew we made the right decision.”
