Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011PIERRE, S.D. – The A.H. Brown Public Library in Mobridge is getting a 4,800 square foot addition, thanks in part to a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) approved this week by Gov. Dennis Daugaard. The Governor awarded the community of Mobridge $257,500 in CDBG funds to expand the library. In recent years, the library’s membership has grown and created the need for additional space. “Libraries really speak to a community’s quality of life,” said Gov. Daugaard. “I’m pleased the library in Mobridge is well-patronized, and I’m pleased the state can help the community continue to provide ample library services to those living in the Mobridge area.” The expansion will provide additional space for public access computers, youth reading programs, and additional library materials. The construction project is expected to begin this fall. CDBG is a reimbursement program, and Mobridge will receive funds as work is completed. The program provides communities with financial resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. Past grants have been used for improvements and construction of community buildings, water systems, and sewer systems. The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development funds the CDBG Program, and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development administers it. -30-
