South Dakota SBA FAST/Proof of Concept SBIR Phase 0 Application

Purpose

The SBIR/STTR Phase 0 option is to support preliminary research and other activities related to development and submission of a Phase I SBIR/STTR proposal to a federal agency. The goal is to increase the competitiveness of the SBIR/STTR proposal.

 Application Process

  • Complete the application form.  Submit the application via email to the following individuals.
  • Application should be a maximum of 5-pages.
  • Up to $5,000 may be requested in the itemized budget. Budgets cannot be used to pay principals of the submitting company.
  • GOED Commissioner, staff and South Dakota SBIR Center Director will review the application and issue an award agreement if the application is approved. 
  • Applicants must be eligible to participate in the SBIR program. 
  • The awardee must submit a draft SBIR Phase I application to the SD SBIR Center one week prior to the submission deadline for review.
  • The awardee must provide documentation evidencing the submission of the SBIR/STTR application to the federal agency and actual expenditures for which reimbursement is requested.   
  • Upon receipt of the documentation and approval then a final payment will be issued to the awardee. 
  • The awardee must notify GOED on the outcome of the SBIR/STTR application. If the federal agency does not fund the Phase I application the awardee would have no obligation to repay the Phase 0 funds. If the federal agency does fund the Phase I application the Phase 0 funds may be converted to a loan or equity at a later date if commercialized successfully.
