Friday, October 21, 2011PIERRE, S.D. – The community of Doland will soon have a safer and more efficient wastewater collection system, thanks in part to a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) approved this week by Gov. Dennis Daugaard. The Governor awarded Doland with $515,000 in CDBG funds to replace all of the community’s deteriorated wastewater lines and to replace the liner in the wastewater lagoon. The grant will also be used to prevent manhole flooding during wet seasons. “Doland’s current system is suffering from numerous age-induced deficiencies,” said Gov. Daugaard. “The rehabilitation of Doland’s wastewater system will help bring the community’s wastewater system in line with currently recommended system standards.” CDBG is a reimbursement program, and Doland will receive funds as work is completed. The program provides communities with financial resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. Past grants have been used for improvements and construction of community buildings, water systems, and sewer systems. The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development funds the CDBG Program, and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development administers it. -30-
